Chapter 6: Metrics and Analytics: LJ 3

After reading Chapter 6, titled Social Media Metrics and Analytics, of Social Media Communication I feel more educated on the algorithms, analytics, and insights from popular websites. I also gained a lot of information about new ideas to me, such as Social Network Analysis and the Barcelona Principles.

In my personal use of social media, I have my Instagram set up as a business profile. This allows me to view insights on my posts and stories similar to those outlined in the text- being shares, save, and other interactions. As I am not a content creator, I typically just use these analytics out of curiosity. However, these are all very viable tools in marketing oneself on social media. Having the ability to clearly see which posts perform best creates better curated content to the audience, which will only lead to more attraction  and a larger following.

Furthermore, in this chapter I was particularly excited to learn about social network analysis, or SNA. SNA takes a deep dive into the connectivity and relations we all share online in order to better understand "information flow" and can be used as "collaboration within political organizations" (Lipschultz 173). More specifically, I was interested in the idea of the sociogram. This is the collection of all data connected between all users as "lines in a social space" (Lipschultz 173). This idea is fascinating to me as we truly are all connected.

In conclusion, chapter 6 had a lot of incredible and relevant information pertaining to our daily uses of social media today. Whether is be analytics or SNA, social media connects us all.

Imagine what someone who actually uses that data for their marketing and advertisement, the information gathered should be inmensly helpful for business to improve.
